As a huge fan of the range, I naturally had to give it a go. L’oreal’s True Match ‘The One’ Concealer has been my go-to under-eye option for a while now. Until the new Eye-cream in a Concealer came on the scene, that is. I’ve been testing it out on a daily basis since its release, and thought it was about time I shared my thoughts.
The True Match Eye-Cream in a Concealer comes in a twist up tube with a brush, where the product is dispensed. Conveniently, the brush allows for precise application and much easier blending.
The range only offers 8 different shades but considering its sheer, natural finish, colour precision isn’t so detrimental in this case, as it tends to blend out well and the colour doesn’t sit on top of the skin. There are 4 light and 4 dark shades on offer, all of which contain slightly more warm or pink pigments to help neutralise blue tones under the eyes.
The L’oreal True Match Eye-cream in a Concealer, as the name suggests, contains some of the coverage and all of the illuminating benefits of an under-eye concealer, but with the addition of skincare ingredients. Following in the footsteps of the True Match foundation, ingredients of note include 0.5% pure Hyaluronic Acid and a sun protection factor of 20
Hyaluronic Acid is known for attracting and holding water, leaving skin more hydrated and plumped. In this instance, Hyaluronic Acid is present in the form of Sodium Hyaluronate, a salt form of Hyaluronic Acid, with smaller molecules that facilitate easier absorption into the skin.
While 0.5% may seem like such a tiny amount, dermatologists suggest that anything over 1% may actually cause irritation. Therefore, 0.5% seems like an adequate amount to keep such a small area hydrated and healthy, without the concern of irritation to the eyes.
While SPF20 may not be a high enough sun protection factor for everyday, it can be applied over your usual SPF for added shielding against UV rays, or is suitable for just around the house.
The product is buildable, but provides more of a light to medium coverage, with the focus being on brightening and reflecting light away from discolouration, rather than masking it. The final result is a smoother, brighter under-eye, with a natural, true-to-skin texture
L’oreal’s ‘The One’ concealer is a thicker consistency than it’s Eye-cream sister product, with a higher level of pigmentation for more medium to full, buildable coverage. It’s not only suitable as an under-eye concealer, but also for covering and brightening other areas of the face. While the Eye-Cream in Concealer is sheer, promoting a natural no-makeup, brightening effect, it doesn’t offer anywhere near as much coverage.
‘The One’ takes some blending and working into the skin due to its higher pigmentation and denseness, while the Eye-cream in a Concealer simply melts into the skin when patted with a finger or makeup sponge.
The two concealers are clearly targeted to do two different things: ‘The One’, while also being slightly radiant and brightening, actively covers and conceals dark circles; Perfect for anyone that suffers with moderate undereye discolouration. On the other hand, the Eye-Cream in a Concealer is great for mature and dry skin, offering hydration with the added benefits of Hyaluronic Acid and SPF. Yet, it promotes a 100% natural, ‘your skin but better’ finish.
All in all, if heavier coverage and a flawless undereye base is what you’re looking for, then the L’oreal ‘The One’ is… well, the one for you. If you’re looking for a concealer that simply brightens, while also hydrating, then the L’oreal Eye-Cream in a Concealer is your best bet.
As a person that doesn’t suffer from bad under-eye bags or discolouration, I love that there is such a quick and easy-to-use product that simply nourishes and brightens the skin, without being too heavy or cakey, for a healthy-looking under-eye area. It’s perfect for when you’re just about to head out the door and want something that simply accentuates your natural beauty and makes you look perkier and more awake, rather than caked in product. Definitely a win if you’re a more mature lady (or man – no discrimination here!) that shy’s away from heavy coverage and needs a bit of an under-eye pick-me-up, let’s say. Simply twist, brush on and pat into the skin. Easy peasy.
I also love layering my True Match Eye-Cream in a Concealer underneath my ‘The One’ concealer when I want added coverage. Consider the Eye-Cream in Concealer more for it’s nourishing and hydrating properties that provides a smooth and moisturised base for any heavier product you add on top. Just dot a small amount of ‘The One’ over the top exactly where you need more coverage and blend with a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, for a truly flawless finish.
